A time in LA, from the first three months of 2018, the works are the feelings, the secret stories, of a trip of contradictions.

If I could disappear. Be swallowed in a nice way. By a comforting warmth, safe and wrapped in sunshine. Dreaming green and everything’s slower. In awe of all the flowers and pulled by the Pacific.

I arrived the last night of the previous year. Why wake another in a place I know too well? To leave was to live. But it wasn’t my life, with its unexpected, underlying sickness for Europe. The weather was summer, though really it was winter, even there, and the sudden early darkness felt like a glitch. It was everything and nothing I wanted. Because when you’re a stranger, who do you trust?

J’ai rencontré Natalie Curtis grâce à Michael Shamberg, lors des premiers événements Turtle organisés à ma galerie. Natalie est venue à Paris à chaque fois que son travail était exposé au milieu de beaucoup d’autres artistes. Sa présence avait quelque chose de discret et de très intense en même temps, et aussi quelque chose comme une calme détermination et une attention aux autres. J’ai été impressionné par ses photos « noires ». Et j’ai voulu en savoir plus. Lors de sa dernière visite au salon Bienvenue, je lui ai proposé de faire une exposition personnelle.
