Bill Brand, À travers les lignes.
J’aime comprendre le fonctionnement des choses, repousser les limites de la perception et résoudre des problèmes complexes. Les dessins, peintures, films, vidéos, photographies, œuvres d’art public que je fais ainsi que les performances de cinéma élargi franchissent les frontières entre abstraction et figuration. Les lignes conductrices de mon travail ne sont pas évidentes mais elles se déploient comme une animation, parfois lentement et avec méthode, parfois d’un coup et sans qu’on s’y attende. Pour cette exposition, j’ai sélectionné des œuvres datant de 1971 à 2026, guidé par les méandres à travers les lignes des essais critiques et des titres de chapitres du nouveau livre de Tara Nelson et Scott Hammen, Invisible Fisherman, the Art of Bill Brand : “Le dessin comme pensée”, “La brisure du cadre”, “Les portraits”, “Les études de peinture chinoise”, “Le mélange des médias” et “Le dessin de chez soi”.

Bill Brand, Through Lines.
I like to understand how things work, push the limits of perception and solve complex puzzles. My drawing, painting, film, video, photography, public art and expanded cinema performances cross boundaries between abstraction and figuration. The through lines in my work are not obvious but unfold like an animation, sometimes slowly and methodically, sometimes suddenly and unexpectedly. For this exhibition I have selected works from 1971 to 2026 informed by the meandering through lines in the critical essays and chapter headings of Tara Nelson and Scott Hammen’s new book, Invisible Fisherman, the Art of Bill Brand : “Drawing as Thinking”, “Breaking the Frame”, “Portraits”, “Chinese Painting Studies”, “Mixing Media”, and “Drawing from Home.”
On Thursday September 24, 7:00 p.m., talk about the book
